Prayerful, thoughtful voting as a Redeemer member is one of the ways that God shows us how we are to proceed. Attending business meetings is one way that we fulfill our Covenant of Membership (page 12 of our Constitution):
(e) Seek to be a blessing to others by using the spiritual gifts the Lord has given me by assuming an active responsibility in the program of the Church;
What if you cannot attend one of the church’s business meetings, but have sufficient information to cast a vote? One provision is to vote by proxy. This is not the preferred way to vote, by any means. It necessitates strict procedures:
- As you can see from the proxy form below (click on it for a printable form), voting this way requires the use of a dated, signed form
- The proxy form has to be delivered by a voting member of the church
- The original of the completed & signed proxy must be delivered to the chair of the meeting prior to the vote being taken
- The Teller must view and approve the legitimacy of proxy votes
